Huntsville Community Involvement

No one in our community should go hungry. We help to fight hunger locally through our continued support of the Bobbie Watkins Odom Food Bank at New Market United Methodist Church. This local food bank has been helping to keep area families fed since 1999 when Bobbie (née Watkins) and Tom Odom recognized a need for the church to step up its local charitable efforts.

Bobbie, Tom, and a group of volunteers have been running the pantry ever since, feeding an average of 145 area families each month. Sadly, Bobbie passed away in December of 2012, but Tom and other members of the church have kept the operation running in her memory. The pantry is always in need of certain items. Leigh Daniel Family Law has participated in the annual U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign to collect and distribute toys to make sure that each child has a new toy at Christmas.

Animal welfare is one of Leigh Daniel’s passions. Her support of The Gentle Barn is just one way she champions that cause. Based in Santa Clarita, CA, The Gentle Barn is a nonprofit animal organization dedicated to “teaching people kindness and compassion for animals, each other, and our planet.”

The group takes in severely abused animals, providing the time and space for them to recover from their experiences. Once the animals have had a chance to heal, they work with abused children and teens to help them heal from their own traumas. Since its founding in 1999, The Gentle Barn has saved thousands of animals and hosted more than 500,000 people in healing retreats.

Another way Leigh Daniel and the rest of our team help promote animal welfare locally is through our support of Friends of Rescue. Based in Huntsville and serving surrounding areas, Friends of Rescue fosters neglected and abused cats and dogs while they wait to find a forever home. This gives the mistreated animals a chance to heal from their injuries and readjust to life with a more friendly owner.

Friends of Rescue accepts dogs and cats of all breeds based on the conviction that every animal deserves a loving home. Furthermore, all animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered before they are placed in foster homes. This way, willing foster families know the animals are safe and in good health when they adopt them.

Leigh Daniel Family Law partners with Furget Me Not Animal Rescue in Huntsville. Each month, the law firm covers the cost of a pet adoption fee and gives away a goodie bag to a new family that has adopted an animal in need of a home.

Continuing our support for local cultural institutions, Leigh Daniel Family Law is a proud sponsor of Gallery 1:11. As noted on their website, Gallery 1:11 is “on a mission to promote healing and to bring more joy and light into the world.”

They do this by showcasing inspirational, cutting-edge pieces to stimulate the imagination and ease the soul. Their gallery includes pieces from both local and international artists of various disciplines. Gallery 1:11 also hosts art classes, concerts, and various exhibitions, making it a regional cultural hotbed. We are proud to support the work of Gallery 1:11 and promote their vision.

Promoting arts and culture is another important cause for Leigh Daniel Family Law. One way we do that is by sponsoring various cultural events in our community. Many of the events take place at Leigh Acres, an 11-acre event space and cultural center located on a farm outside New Market.

Leigh Acres is a passion project for our founding attorney Leigh Daniel. Leigh bought the farm to provide a space for people to explore their artistic creativity and come up with new ideas. The facility hosts numerous events and workshops throughout the year, as well as a monthly market where visitors can find unique handmade gifts.
