Do I consider myself a big city lawyer? Not in the least!
I can remember when I was over in Colbert County in municipal court and the opposing counsel claimed my client had gone and hired a “Big City Lawyer”. I laughed then and still laugh because my roots are right there in Tuscumbia.
Graduate of Deshler High
I graduated from Deshler High School and spent my summers at the Helen Keller Library, burning through the reading list. I was determined to go through it not once, but twice.
I grew up in the United Methodist Church and every now and then will launch into “Victory in Jesus” or “Pass it on.”
When I first began my law practice, my mother reminded me that one of the judges was in her Sunday school class. She said she would put in a good word for me! I told her that wasn’t allowed and begged her not to mention it after class over donuts and coffee. When I tried my case, she came over to sit in the hall and admire me in my suit.
My dad worked at Reynolds Metal Company, as my grandfather did and my brother does now, under new ownership, but still the same.
My brother, Larry Daniel, is a great listener. Over the years, he has called me occasionally to ask legal advice for his co-workers at the plant. I’ve done my best to help when he has asked. Being a domestic relations lawyer, it’s been my privilege to help people make positive changes in their lives. But I’ve never been involved in any meaningful way in the Shoals area. Until now.
New Attorney, Expanded Legal Services
I recently hired a new lawyer who is from Florence and who went to church with my brother and his wife. His name is Dustin Key. He’s as smart as they come and he lives close to Florence. He and I have decided that we want to take cases in the area because, well, frankly, it’s home.
I’ve been practicing law in Madison County since 1996. I’ve handled cases in every surrounding county as well. Leigh Daniel Family Law will continue to have an office in Huntsville. But with the advent of Covid-19, so many people are turning to virtual offices and we can meet anyone virtually. My mom is getting older and I want to see her more. I know how happy it would make her for me to return home. She really wants me to come to church with her!
